Flood Relief
Flooding due to annual torrential rains plague the region and cause annual flooding to Yekope. We are extremely grateful to our generous donors for supporting our annual cleaning, facilities maintenance, and relocation costs. We hope to relocate our facilities outside of the flood zones in the near future.
Annual Flooding
Annual torrential rains plague the area and cause flooding that can reach up to 4 feet. The entire area must evacuate to temporary shelter, including our children and staff. The worst part of this is that there is no way to predict the exact day or time this will occur. Our staff work tirelessly to complete the enormous feat of relocating every child as quickly and safely as possible, then tend to any damages once flooding has subsided and the area is cleared to return. There is no flood insurance in Lokoja, so relocation and repairs would be impossible without the generous support of donors.

Yekope currently has very limited capacity, and nearby shelters are already stretched thin. It is our goal to relocate and build a larger campus in an area free from annual flooding that can provide more services to more people in the area of Lokoja.
